Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman stumbled over his words, mispronouncing ‘infrastructure’ and ‘delegation’, as he spoke to the media on Saturday after showing up in a hoodie and shorts to tour the collapsed I-95 bridge with President Biden.

Fetterman, who continues to recover from a stroke, was slammed earlier today for his casual outfit choice while his fellow Democrat politicians were all smartly-dressed in suits.

In his remarks to the media, Fetterman said that Biden ‘is here to commit to work with the governor and the ‘delegadation’ to make sure that we get this fixed quick, fast, as well, too. This is a president that is committed to ‘infructure,’ yeah, and then on top of that the jewel kind of a law of the ‘infration.’

Biden – no stranger to verbal gaffes – nodded politely as Fetterman stumbled over his speech.

It comes just a few days after the embattled senator sparked health concerns at a Senate Environment Committee hearing Wednesday when he stumbled through his remarks about the I-95 bridge collapse.

The stretch of the East Coast’s main north-south highway collapsed last Sunday after a tractor-trailer hauling gasoline flipped over on an off-ramp and caught fire. State transportation officials said the driver was trying to navigate a curve and lost control.

Fetterman was slapped for wearing his trademark shorts and hoodie to meet a smartly-dressed President Biden on Saturday, as the two lawmakers toured a collapsed freeway in Philadelphia

Biden had arrived in Philadelphia for an aerial tour of the collapse site along with Gov. Josh Shapiro, Sen. Bob Casey, Rep. Brendan Boyle and Mayor Jim Kenney.

All were dressed in suits except for Fetterman who was casually dressed in shorts and a hoodie. His appearance drew harsh criticism online with one person tweeting that Fetterman ‘showed up ready for a game of hoops.’

Fetterman remained in the same clothes when he gave remarks later in the day.  He spoke without notes or apparent auditory device, speaking about his visit with Biden to the collapsed bridge in Western Pennsylvania.

‘Guess what? That bridge was rebuilt in a year well, well in front of time,’ he said.

Fetterman, who continues to recover from a stroke, struggled a bit with the word ‘infrastructure,’ concluding his brief remarks by saying “bridges all across American getting rebuilt.”

It came on a visit Biden said was more than ‘parochial’ as workers seek to restore the vital I-95 artery. He said the construction effort would continue ‘until it’s totally finished.’

‘There’s no more important project to the country right now as far as I’m concerned, he said, calling it an ‘all hands on deck’ situation.

Biden began his trip with an aerial trip aboard Marine One to see the construction underway from above. A V-22 Osprey carrying reporters who trail Biden when he travels wove through the air to allow photographers to catch shots of the president’s tour.

Fetterman was also on hand when Biden and top officials got a briefing on the repair project and spoke to the media, but hadn’t done a wardrobe change for that event either

At an event at the Philadelphia airport set up for press, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro guided Biden and other officials and showed them large TV screens displaying a live-stream of the construction project.

Shapiro sported a crisp white shirt and no tie, as did Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey.

‘We will have I-95 reopened within the next two weeks,’ said Shapiro, who has been mentioned as a potential national figure.

When the Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney spoke about Biden phoning him after the incident, the president jumped in: ‘I might add if I didn’t I’d be sleeping alone.’ That was a reference to first lady Jill Biden, a “Philly girl.”

Biden also viewed jars of recycled glass – 85 percent lighter than dirt fill – being used in the rush project.

When it was over about noon, Biden chatted with union members, telling one labor representative with strong arms: ‘He’s got guns as big as my thighs.’

Biden had plans to speak to a union conference in Philadelphia Saturday afternoon – his first large scale public event since announcing his reelection campaign.

Meanwhile, Biden’s top diplomat Secretary of State Antony Blinken is seeking to ease tensions on a trip to Beijing.

Biden called the balloon incident ‘more embarrassing than it was intentional,’ evidently cutting China’s leaders some slack on the balloon incident that caused an uproar. He ultimately ordered the military to shoot down the balloon over the Atlantic after it traversed the U.S. mainland.

‘China has some legitimate difficulties,’ he said.

The president bragged about locking in union endorsements before leaving Washington, Saturday but isn’t yet ready to predict he will face a nasty campaign.

‘It depends on who the nominee is,’ he told DailyMail.com before boarding Air Force One.

On Wednesday, months after Fetterman made a headline grabbing six-week hospital visit for clinical depression, he was asked in a Senate Environment Committee hearing if he had any remarks about the overpass disaster.

‘I, uh, would just, um, really like to, you know — the 95, 95, 95. You know?’ he responded.

‘Obviously, you’re pretty much preoccupied with 95, and I, I certainly am too… and we know its a major atery (sic), not just for Pennsylvania, but for the East Coast.’

The Senator’s mumbled statement trailed off as he neared the end of his sentence, amid concerns that he has still not fully recovered from a debilitating stroke in May 2022.

The lawmaker’s appearance has been a hot-button issue for conservatives since he joined the Senate in January.

Following his outfit choice on Saturday as he met with Biden, one commenter on Twitter asked: ‘Does Fetterman own any business clothes or does he literally always dress like a schlub?’ Others called the senator a clown and an embarrassment.

Last month, Fetterman wore his favored Carhartt hoodie as he appeared alongside several Democrat heavyweights including Bernie Sanders to tout progress on debt limit negotiations.

GOP Congresswoman Lauren Boebert took to Twitter to express her disapproval at his sartorial decisions, calling his outfit ‘truly unbecoming’.

By comparison, his four Democratic colleagues were all dressed in suits, ties and more formal footwear.

‘John Fetterman redefined Casual Friday on a Thursday morning. It’s truly unbecoming for someone to show up like that to any job, let alone a job that only 100 people are elected to do. There’s just no excuse for it,’ she railed.

But for regular followers of Fetterman, it would have been no surprise to see him wear such casual clothing.

During his time as the Mayor of Braddock and throughout his campaign for the Pennsylvania Senate he could often be seen wearing a hoodie and shorts.

Fetterman only recently returned to the Senate following a six-week hospital stay for clinical depression.

During that time he was also seen wearing a hoodie and shorts on several occasions.

The 53 year-old previously suffered a stroke, with his stumbling and sometimes incoherent congressional appearances sparking repeated concerns for his health.

Criticisms about Fetterman’s mental competency reached fever pitch before he was even elected to the Senate, when he appeared to struggle to finish his thoughts during a debate with Republican rival Mehmet Oz in October.

After opening the night by addressing the crowd ‘Hi, goodnight everyone’, it became apparent Fetterman was still suffering lingering speech and auditory issues from the stroke he suffered in May 2022.

Fetterman at times struggled to get through his hour-long debate with Oz, with his delivery often halting and choppy.

At one point Fetterman was asked to clarify his position on fracking, as moderators pointed to a 2018 interview where the lieutenant governor expressed broad opposition to the practice, but not a ban.

‘I do support fracking – I don’t, I don’t – I support fracking, and I do support fracking,’ he answered.

A month later, he was slammed by Donald Trump Jr. , who branded the then-candidate ‘brain dead’.
