Lana Del Rey gave her fans quite the surprise on Thursday when she was spotted working as a waitress in a Waffle House in Alabama.

The singer, 38, stepped away from the stage as she was seen pouring coffees and taking orders at the restaurant chain.

Lana was dressed in the company’s blue uniform and wore a yellow name badge as she kept busy behind the counter and appeared to be waiting tables.

She was also seen chatting to some very surprised customers, before sweetly posing for photographs with eager fans at the restaurant.

It is not known why Lana was working at the venue, but fans were quick to flock to social media to share their shock at her appearance.

Unexpected: Lana Del Rey gave her fans quite the surprise on Thursday when she was spotted working as a waitress in a Waffle House in Alabama

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: ‘Lana Del Rey randomly working as a waitress for the Waffle House is iconic.’

Another said: ‘What is Lana Del Rey doing working a shift at the Waffle House,’ while a third tweeted: ‘Waffle House employee of the month: Lana Del Rey.’

And another joked: ‘Lana Del Rey working at Waffle House was not on my 2023 bingo card.’

Other fans speculated that she might be filming a music video, while some wondered whether she had been gifted the uniform so was giving a helping hand.

Eager customer Karina Cisneros Juarez told how they were thrilled to have met the musician in the restaurant, describing their encounter as ‘insane’.

They wrote on Facebook: ‘I have been a huge fan of Lana Del Rey for over a decade, so meeting her today was truly insane.’

MailOnline has contacted Lana’s representatives for comment.

Despite being a hugely successful global star with nine studio albums, Lana keeps a low profile in her every day life and doesn’t have any presence on social media.

In the past, she has also told how she likes to pursue other job opportunities as well as music, describing her as ‘flexible’ in her career.

Del Rey, 38, is one of the most successful singers of the past 10 years, with five Australian number one albums to her name. Earlier this month she sold out a headline show at London’s Hyde Park for 65,000 fans, and she has an estimated net worth of more than $40 million.

But she also keeps a low profile outside of her concerts and music releases, and has in the past expressed an interest in following career opportunities outside of music.

In 2021, she told Variety: ‘Sometimes that has taken me super far away from music into other mediums and other job opportunities that have nothing to do with the arts at all.

‘I’m very flexible and what I’ve come to understand is that if you follow what you’re interested in, you’ll end up being the most creative in that field.’

‘Even if you get a 9-5 after you got the decade award, you need to do what feels right,’ she added.

Lana’s most recent appearance was considerably more low-key than her recent Glastonbury gig, which saw her look very glamorous as she took to the stage.

The hotly-anticipated gig caused controversy after she arrived on stage 30 minutes late due to having her hair done, and later had her microphone turned off.

She kept fans at the Park Stage waiting for half an hour beyond her scheduled start time, then bizarrely blamed the fact she was getting her hair done for her tardiness – with her hairdresser appearing on stage to finish tending to her tresses as she sang.

The star’s set had been due to end at 11.45pm, but was still going on more than 15 minutes later and because of the site’s curfew, her microphone was then cut mid-performance as she sang White Mustang.

Appearing at London’s BST Hyde Park earlier this month, Lana then addressed the incident as she said: ‘Sorry about that.’

Lana made light of last month’s situation as she performed in the UK capital this weekend despite some of her fans crying after feeling let down at Glastonbury.

When introducing her track Diet Mountain Dew on Sunday, she joked: ‘I think is where I got cut off last time. Sorry about that.’

Referencing the situation again before performing her hit Video Games, she said: ‘It’s worth it if the power is cut.’
