Election years are busy enough, but now former President Donald Trump may have to appear in court again and again while campaigning for the presidency.

With Monday’s indictment out of Fulton County, Georgia – related to Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election in that state – the ex-president’s 2024 calendar is filling up.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said she’d like to see Trump’s trial kick off in the next six months, meaning it could take place smack dab in the middle of presidential primary season.

Additionally, one of Trump’s trial dates – for the original E. Jean Carroll defamation lawsuit – is set to take place on January 15, 2024, the exact same day as the Iowa caucuses.

Here are key dates to look out for as Trump runs for president and tries to stay out of jail:

Trump has said he’s made his decision, but won’t announce it until next week.

Trump lost the 2016 Iowa caucus to Sen. Ted Cruz.

January 15, 2024: E. Jean Carroll defamation trial begins

 E. Jean Carroll’s original defamation lawsuit against Trump goes to trial – but luckily for the ex-president, with the Iowa caucuses happening the same day, the 2024 Republican hopeful doesn’t have to attend in person.

Carroll sued Trump in November 2019 for defamation after he publicly denied her claims of being raped by him in 1996 in the Bergdorf Goodman department store i New York City. Trump said that Carroll was ‘totally lying’ and ‘not my type.’

In a separate lawsuit that went to trial earlier this year, jury members found that Trump did not rape Carroll but sexually abused her and awarded her $5 million in the suit, something Trump is challenging.
