A video appearing to show late Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin alive has sparked a flurry of conspiracy theories.

The Russian warlord, 62, was killed alongside nine others after his private jet caught fire and fell 28,000 feet to the ground last week (August 23).

Since then wild rumours have swirled that the military man may have cheated death by placing a body double on the ill-fated plane – and now a new video has surfaced, seemingly showing Prigozhin alive.

Dressed in army get-up, the man in the video can be heard saying: “How am I doing?

“It’s the weekend, the second half of August [20]23.?

“I am in Africa.

“So fans of discussing my elimination, intimate life, earnings or whatever, as a matter of fact, everything is fine.”

The video was posted to the Grey Zone Telegram channel which is linked to Wagner, the mercenary group Prigozhin led prior to his death.

The channel didn’t caption the video or specify when it was filmed.

Even if the footage is real, however, it doesn’t necessarily prove Prigozhin is alive.

The military boss had been in Africa – where Wagner has military operations – prior to returning to Moscow in time for the fatal plane crash.

Some now believe the video was recorded on August 19 or 20, the weekend before his death.

Reporting on the video, Russian Telegram channel AST-54 stated: “Some say that the video is old, while others say that it is new and Prigozhin really survived and is in Africa.”

The channel added: “He does not have access to the internet around the clock and could not immediately respond to the situation with the crash of his personal plane.

“He also did not address the plane crash, suggesting that the video was recorded before the crash.

“There are no descriptions from those who posted the video.

“The actual recording date is unknown.

“It is assumed that the video could have been recorded a few days before the crash, around August 20.

“Then Prigozhin really was in Africa, and later flew to Russia, where the plane crash occurred.

“Yet why is he discussing his death?

“There was no sign of this before the crash.”

It is believed the warlord was assassinated by Russian despot Vladimir Putin after he attempted to lead an uprising to Moscow back in June.

A number of theories attempting to explain the mysterious plane crash have spread since his death – one source suggested a bomb may have been planted on the plane in a crate of “expensive wine”.

Wagner social media accounts have also claimed the plane was shot down by Russian air defences, claims which have been backed up by UK defence sources.

Former British Army officer Colonel Hamish de Bretton-Gordon said “absolutely nobody is surprised” by Prigozhin’s death, but said it could spell trouble for Putin.

“Putin has signed his death warrant here,” he told The Sun last week.

“He has upset the two most powerful groups in Russia – the oligarchs who keep him in power and the most effective fighting force Putin has ever put in the field, the Wagner Group.”

Prigozhin’s death was confirmed through genetic testing last weekend and a private funeral was held on Tuesday (August 29).
