Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced Monday that he is running for president of the United States on a third party ticket — a story Mediaite broke last week.

“Are you ready for him to fight for you?” asked Kennedy’s wife, actor Cheryl Hines, as she introduced her husband.

Before a crowd of hundreds chanting, “Bobby! Bobby!” and “RFK All The Way!” Kennedy said, “I am here to declare myself an independent candidate.”

Kennedy spoke about disenfranchised Americans, saying “Eighty percent of our country…cannot afford a middle-class lifestyle,” which sows “dangerous” discontent.

He said Americans are “tired of the culture wars” and are “ready to take back power.”

“They are ready to reclaim their freedom and independence.”

Kennedy is an environmental lawyer and vehement anti-vaccine activist.

Mediaite broke the news last week that Kennedy would announce his third-party run Monday in Philadelphia.

“Bobby feels that the DNC is changing the rules to exclude his candidacy, so an independent run is the only way to go,” a Kennedy campaign insider told Mediaite.

In a video released shortly after Mediaite’s report, “Kennedy said there is corruption ‘in the leadership of both political parties’ and said he wants to ‘rewrite the assumptions and change the habits of American politics,’ according to the Associated Press.

Both liberals and conservatives have expressed interest in Kennedy’s run, and it remains unclear if his candidacy will be a “spoiler” for Donald Trump (R) or Joe Biden (D), who are expected to be their parties’ nominees.
