Jerome Powell, the normally staid chair of the Federal Reserve, dropped an f-bomb after protestors interrupted his speech on Thursday.

Speaking at a conference at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., Powell spoke about the Fed’s attempts to lower inflation.

“We expect that the process of getting inflation sustainably down to 2% has a long way to go,” he told attendees. “The labor market remains tight, although improvements in labor supply and a gradual easing in demand continue to move it into better balance. GDP growth in the third quarter was quite strong. But, like most forecasters, we expect growth to moderate in coming quarters.”

As he spoke, at least three people walked behind him and a woman’s voice began speaking.

“Jerome Powell, by refusing to treat climate change like the systemic risk–”

“Ok, thank you,” Powell said calmly.

“You are putting us at risk of economic disaster,” she continued, as the camera feed was turned off.

“Thank you very much,” Powell reiterated off-camera before apparently addressing an aid. “Thank you. Just close the fucking door. Close the door.”

Led by Powell, the Federal Reserve has gradually ratcheted up interest rates in an attempt to cool the economy. In March, he clashed with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) over the Fed’s strategy during a Senate Banking Committee meeting.

“The Fed’s goal is to slow inflation, and your tool — raising interest rates — is designed to slow the economy and throw people out of work,” she said. “So far you haven’t tipped the economy into a recession, but you haven’t brought inflation under control either.

Powell has not explicitly stated that the Fed is aiming to throw people out of work, but that’s what guests on CNBC are for.
