An Alabama jewelry store robber tried to spread some holiday spirit — in the form of bear spray — before ending up getting shot and arrested, according to police.

Heather Denise Wright, 32, of Nauvoo, Alabama, allegedly walked into Jeff Dennis Jewelers wearing a face mask, put a block in the door to prop it open, and said, “Happy holidays. I don’t want to hurt y’all, but I am,” owner Jeff Dennis told AL.com.

She then allegedly blasted bear spray at the employees.

“This was traumatic for us all, but it could have been much worse,” Dennis said in a Facebook post.

Police tracked Wright to an apartment in Birmingham. She was hospitalized for treatment of the gunshot wound.

“I am thankful that she will survive and hopefully be able to turn her life around,” Dennis said.

Wright has been charged with three counts of first-degree robbery and three counts of criminal use of defense spray, according to police. She will be booked at the Jefferson County Jail.

“If anything, I think a message was sent last night that, ‘We don’t play,’” he told WBRC-TV.

Jeff Dennis Jewelers has been in business since 2004. The store has been in the news previously

Dennis got into a playful sign war with a neighboring Chick-fil-A. The restaurant chain was once owned by a longtime friend.
