A woman in Belgium was fatally injured when a Christmas tree fell in a crowded city square.
The incident happened during a storm that brought heavy rain and strong winds across northern Europe.
The 65-foot tree collapsed onto three people at a busy Christmas market in Oudenaarde in western Belgium late Thursday.
Security camera footage showed a brightly lit tree slowly leaning over, then collapsing as a merry-go-round turned, Reuters reported.
A 63-year-old woman died and two other people were injured in the accident, according to the Associated Press.
The investigation will look into whether the tree had been properly secured, a town spokesperson said.
The Christmas market in the historic town square was immediately canceled.
Another woman was killed by a falling tree in the Netherlands.
It happened on Thursday in the eastern Dutch town of Wilp later died of her injuries, her employer said.
