Other emergency responders included two rescue vehicles, one ambulance, one police squad car, and one brush truck.

The fire incident was the first in Alabama’s Autauga County. 

Pine Level Fire Department wrote on Facebook: “Electric vehicle fires are unusual and present unique challenges and dangers to firefighters.

“These vehicles can reignite hours or days after they are first extinguished. They burn at temperatures exceeding 2500 degrees C.

“The smoke from these burning electric cars produces Hydrogen Fluoride and Hydrogen Chloride gases – both of which are toxic to breathe and require firefighters to wear breathing apparatus.”

This flaming Tesla Model Y’s driver was uninjured and taken into custody by Alabama’s Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) following the crash.

The Daily Express US reached out to Tesla for comment but did not receive a response. 

Tesla was founded by its CEO Elon Musk, who – according to Tesla – “leads all product design, engineering and global manufacturing of the company’s electric vehicles, battery products and solar energy products.” 

This week senators have called on Elon Musk to swiftly” recall any parts that pose a safety risk citing an “alarming” investigation by Reuters.

The investigation, published on December 20, found Tesla blamed drivers for failures of components it knew were defective. 

A Tesla engineer was left with an “open wound” after being attacked by a robot at the company’s Giga Texas factory near Austin in 2021, it was recently discovered.
