Children being treated at hospital

Children’s Mercy Hospital told NBC News that 12 patients from the Chiefs rally are being treated at the hospital, and that most of them are children.

Police Chief Stacey Graves said earlier that she didn’t believe that any of the 10 to 15 victims with gunshot wounds were children.

Lisa Augustine, a media relations manager with Children’s Mercy Hospital, said that nine of the 12 patients have gunshot wounds.

It’s unclear how many of the gunshot wound victims are children.

Shawn Grew, 46, said, “It was someone within feet of me,” The Kansas City Star reported.

The dad said he heard a single shot fired near a security post that was east of the stage outside Union Station – the city’s cultural center and Amtrak hub.

High school student Gabe Wallace ran away from the gunfire and scraped his head on the concrete while jumping a barrier.

He said he thought his friends were going to die when he lost track of them, Wallace told The Kansas City Star.
