Alexei Navalny’s brother has been placed on a wanted list in Russia just days after the opposition figure was announced dead in a Russian prison.

As reported by Russian state media TASS, the Russian Interior Ministry said on Tuesday that Oleg Anatolyevich Navalny is “wanted under an article of the Criminal Code.”

The Russian authorities did not state exactly what part of the code Oleg had broken. Moscow’s Preobrazhensky Court had already handed Oleg a one-year suspended sentence in 2021 for trying to organize an “unauthorized rally.”

There were calls for Oleg’s suspended sentence to be changed so he could be put behind bars, but he eventually managed to flee from Russia. It is not known where Oleg fled, although it was suspected that he may have headed to Cyprus.

Oleg was also sentenced to over three years in prison in 2014 due to a fraud conviction in a case revolving around the Russian subsidiary of the French cosmetics firm Yves Rocher. He was released in 2018.

Kremlin insider warns Putin could kill Alexei Navalny’s wife Yulia next [EXCLUSIVE]

Navalny’s family has been told that his body will be held for two weeks for “chemical analysis.” The top opposition leader was a vehement critic of the Kremlin who published numerous investigations into corruption at the heart of Russian politics.

In 2020, Alexei survived after being poisoned with the Novichok nerve agent while on a flight. He was placed in a coma before being transferred to Berlin for treatment.

Alexei accused Putin of trying to kill him. He then eventually returned to Russia in January 2021 despite fears he would be arrested.

He was immediately detained on accusations of violating parole conditions while he was hospitalized in Germany.

Since Alexei’s death, images have shown Russian police clamping down on protestors sympathetic to his cause.
