Trump campaign leaders called on staff to avoid making any public comments following the failed assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump and condemned any “dangerous rhetoric” posted on social media.

In a staff memo written by campaign managers Chris Lacivita and Susie Wiles, Trump campaign staffers were urged to “recognize the political polarization in this heated election. If something looks or feels off, please flag it immediately for leadership or an on-site security team.”

“Please do not comment publicly on the occurrence of today,” the memo continued. “We condemn all forms of violence, and will not tolerate dangerous rhetoric on social media.”

Mediaite has obtained the internal memo:

Team,

Susie and I remain horrified at the attack on President Trump at the rally in Pennsylvania.

We thank the brave men and women of United States Secret Service and all first responders for their courageous efforts. President Trump was treated at a local medical facility and is doing well – and in great spirits. We join with all Americans in prayers of gratitude for the safety of President Trump and even more, we pray for the supporters who are injured or deceased.

In response to this violence, we encourage those of you who remain in DC and West Palm Beach to stay away from the office tomorrow, as we assess both locations.
We are enhancing the armed security presence with 24/7 officers on-site. Additional security assessments will be in place. Our highest priority is to keep all of you on this staff safe.

We also urge you to recognize the political polarization in this heated election. If something looks or feels off, please flag it immediately for leadership or an on-site security team.

Please do not comment publicly on the occurrence of today. We condemn all forms of violence, and will not tolerate dangerous rhetoric on social media.

In moments of tragedy and horror, we must be resolute in our mission to reelect President Trump. It’s is our fervent hope that this horrendous act will bring our team, and indeed the nation, together in unity and we must renew our commitment to safety and peace for our country.

The RNC Convention will continue as planned in Milwaukee, where we will nominate our President to be the brave and fearless nominee of our Party.

We appreciate your dedication and perseverance and are thankful for each and every one of you.

Best, Chris and Susie
