A POLICE commissioner has resigned after he was busted with a prostitute in his car and when confronted, asked officers if they could “help him out.”

Bryan Ferguson, who represented District 1 for the Detroit Police Board of Commissions, announced on Thursday that he would be resigning from his position after the news came to light.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of Detroit in police oversight,” he told the Detroit Free Press in a statement.

“After further consideration of the best interest of my family and the Board, I am choosing to resign as District 1 Police Commissioner effective immediately.

“Again, I admonish the Board and the public to remain focused on the important work of oversight, transparency, and accountability,” he continued.

Ferguson had also served as the chair of the city’s police oversight board.

Undercover agents from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department reported that they saw Ferguson committing a lewd act with a sex worker around 7.15am on Wednesday.

When deputies approached him, Ferguson asked if they could “help him out” and told them his position, according to Captain Jason Bates.

“At that time, Mr. Bryan Ferguson stepped out, identified himself as a Detroit police commissioner,” Bates told Fox 2 Detroit.

“A title or position doesn’t make them above the law.”

However, Ferguson told the Detroit Free Press that the allegations are a “big misunderstanding” and that he “has nothing to hide.”

“I’m done talking about it, that’s just not what happened,” he said.

He claimed that he didn’t know the woman and that she went into his vehicle and “just pulled up right on me.”

“This is rough. This is rough to tell. Because now I’m going to have this conversation with my family,” he said.

Ferguson was given a misdemeanor citation for indecent or obscene conduct involving a sex act with a prostitute, said Bates.

The prostitute also received a citation.

The Detroit Police Department issued a statement on the situation: “We were made aware that a member of the Board of Police Commissioners (BOPC) was cited by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) for an alleged illegal activity, which occurred this morning.

“We have not seen the police report and do not have details on the incident. Therefore, it would not be appropriate to comment. We will consult with the City of Detroit Law Department, regarding this matter.”

According to his bio on the Detroit Police Commission’s website, Ferguson graduated from the Detroit Citizens Police Academy in 2014.

He has served as the representative for District 1, which includes the 8th Precinct and parts of the 2nd and 6th Precincts, since 2021.

In January 2022, Ferguson was elected as Vice Chair to fill up a leadership position that was left vacant by the loss of Detroit 300 leader Martin Jones.

He’s described as a “proud home improvement guru, avid bowler, car and bike builder, and former stand-up comedian.”

Ferguson is married and has one daughter.
