Yet, somehow, Gwyneth Paltrow appears to be overcoming the terrible odds and is quietly dominating California’s cannabis market.

Yes, the same actress who made headlines selling anal sex toys for Father’s Day appears to be one of the only people actually winning in California’s tumultuous cannabis industry.

The Academy Award-winning actress co-owns the most successful celebrity cannabis brand in California, according to a recent report from MJBizDaily. Paltrow is an early investor in Cann, and the brand is conquering the largest legal cannabis market in the world.

The report, based on data from analytics firm Headset, estimated that Paltrow’s weed brand is seeing over $750,000 in sales a month. No other celebrity brand came close to Paltrow’s sales, with her nearly doubling the sales of Seth Rogen’s Houseplant pot brand, her closest celebrity competitor.

To put Paltrow’s chart-topping sales in perspective, a noncelebrity cannabis brand is only bringing in just under $27,000 a month, according to the report. Paltrow’s weed drinks are also outselling pot brands from Mike Tyson, Santana and even Justin Bieber.

Cann sells cannabis-infused sparkling waters in flavors like blood orange cardamom and grapefruit rosemary. It focuses on small doses of cannabis, with each serving containing as little as 2 milligrams of THC, pot’s most common intoxicant.

Weed drinks are notoriously hard to sell, and major companies across California’s market are failing, but Cann seems to have found a market for its low-dose drink.

“The Royal Tenenbaums” star invested in the company in 2020 for an undisclosed amount. She has an unusual connection to one of the company’s founders, Luke Anderson. Paltrow first met Anderson when she was 16 and he was still wearing diapers, according to the New York Post. Paltrow worked as Anderson’s babysitter while they were both living on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Paltrow declined to invest in the brand initially but was eventually won over, with Anderson saying, “She used to change my diapers and now she supports me in selling drugs,” according to the New York Post.

Cann also has investment capital from actress Rebel Wilson, model Ruby Rose and former NBA player Baron Davis.

Paltrow’s success at selling weed probably shouldn’t surprise anyone, given that she’s become more of a salesperson than an actress in recent years. Her Goop brand had sold everything from medically-not-advised vaginal jade eggs to an aromatic spray that functions as a “psychic vampire repellent.”

Despite Cann’s impressive celebrity following, the weed drink brand has opted to not put any celebrity names on its products, instead opting for whimsical labels that give off a hotel-wallpaper-in-Portland vibe. The company also has a higher-dose line of drinks called “Hi Boys” and a line of small “roadie” squeeze pouches that have 2 milligrams of THC in each.

Paltrow’s Goop company is known for only having a fleeting interest in products — Paltrow’s Goop-themed Mediterranean cruise line lasted for just one voyage before apparently being canceled. But with over $750,000 in monthly sales, her investment in Cann appears to have some staying power, even when other celebrities apparently fail to make any headway in California’s difficult pot market.

Paltrow might be on her way to being America’s next celebrity stoner. Willie Nelson, whose star power in the cannabis world is huge, is selling less than $3,000 of pot a month, according to the report.
