CNN’s Kasie Hunt called Rep. Steve Scalise’s (R-LA) House Speaker nomination an “embarrassing moment” for Donald Trump since the former president had other ideas in mind for who should hold that role.

Hunt joined Boris Sanchez, Dana Bash and Jamie Gangel on Wednesday to react to the House Republican Conference vote where Scalise won the GOP nomination for the speakership. Scalise and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) were thought to be the most likely candidates to be nominated to succeed Kevin McCarthy, who was ousted this month after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) instigated a mutiny against him.

As the CNN panel broke down the vote and what it could mean with regards to the Israel-Hamas war, Gangel told her colleagues “There are a couple of names of people who I’m sort of curious how they will weigh in.” Naming Trump, Gangel noted that “he backed” Jordan’s bid for the speakership, just for Scalise to come out on top.

“Bit of an embarrassing moment for him, isn’t it?” Hunt said. Gangel seemed to agree, saying, “It didn’t work out. And so, what is he going to do at this point?”
