Pennsylvania’s Democratic governor is calling a Sunday evening pro-Palestinian protest outside a Philadelphia restaurant a “blatant act of antisemitism.”

Hundreds of protesters had been marching through Center City when the crowd stopped in front of Goldie, an Israeli-style falafel shop owned by a Jewish restauranteur.

Video footage circulating online shows the crowd chanting: “Goldie, Goldie you can’t hide, we charge you with genocide!”

The crowd also stuck “Free Palestine” and “This is Genocide” stickers on the front of the business, according to one witness.

Goldie is part of the CookNSolo group, co-owned by Israeli-born Michael Solomonov, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The group had at one point been part of a fundraiser that raised money for a volunteer group of medics operating in Gaza, which appears to be at least partially why the shop was targeted on Sunday.

Gov. Josh Shapiro posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “A restaurant was targeted and mobbed because its owner is Jewish and Israeli. This hate and bigotry is reminiscent of a dark time in history.”

He says he has reached out to Solomonov to share his support and plans to dine there soon.

The White House on Monday also slammed the protest, calling it “antisemitic and completely unjustifiable.”

“I can’t believe I even have to say this but targeting businesses simply because they’re Jewish owned is despicable. Philadelphia stands against this sort of harassment and hate,” U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle, who represents Philadelphia in Congress, added.

The Philadelphia Free Palestine Coalition organized the march and called it “one of the biggest demonstrations in Philly” in support of  Gaza and Palestine.
