DFW saw a record high on Monday with the first 90° temps of the year.

DALLAS — Just seems like we can never escape the summer around here…even during the winter.

Record High

DFW set a record high on Monday with a high temp of 94°!

That’s 30° above normal and breaks the 100+ year record of 90° set on this day in 1917.

Most areas from DFW to the west also hit the 90s with even some mid-90s arriving in areas west of DFW.

Monday was also the warmest February day since the thermometer hit 95° on February 21st in 1996.

How rare are 90s in February?

Fairly rare, but not unheard of.

Including Monday, 90s have only happened 10 times in 124 years of weather records.

Before Monday, the 90s actually happened very recently when DFW hit 90° on February 21st last year (2023). But before last year, you have to go back to 1996 to find the 90s in February.

These 90° temps in February also arrived around 2 months ahead of schedule with the average 1st 90° day not happening until April 19th.

What does this mean for the spring and summer?

In short, not a ton. One thing does not directly relate to the other. Much more info about that here.

However, you may also find this interesting…remember those 90s back in 1996? Well in March of that year, there were three days in a row of lows ranging from 20° to 22° and even a trace of snow fell late in month.

Texas weather is always going to keep us on our toes.
