Hottest September temperature ever recorded in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Today, we shattered another heat record.

The Phoenix area recorded a high temperature of 117 degrees. That is, by far, the latest ever 117-degree temperature recorded during a calendar year. It smashed the previous daily high of 108 in 1992.

It’s also the hottest September temperature ever recorded for Phoenix. We think the record-setting will continue for another week.

Yes, that’s right. Today was the fourth straight day Phoenix set a record high. It is entirely possible that the streak could last until next weekend with 10 or 11 straight days with record highs.

The excessive heat warning for metro Phoenix and western Arizona is slated to end after Tuesday, but it could be extended into Wednesday. At this point, that’s the least of our concerns.

We do see temperatures moderating, if that’s what you call it, for the next few days. Sunday’s high is forecast at 113 degrees, and Monday’s will be around 110.

While the final number won’t be known until Monday, it seems to be a lock that September 2024 will be another all-time record for Phoenix heat. Perhaps we can get off this train next month.
