American Genocide: The Eugenics Solution Promoted by Socialists

In this essay, I’d like to expose the eugenics movement for its genocidal evil and racism. The leadership of the 20th-century eugenics organizations was mostly led by wealthy socialists. Rather than re-hashing all of the detailed history of the eugenics movement here in this article, I encourage my readers to watch this documentary film: The Eugenics Crusade. The film was produced by the leftist PBS, so it has a bias that soft-pedals the strong influence of American and European socialists in the movement. But regardless, the documentary shows the insidious evil of eugenics.

Herein, I will provide just a few details on some of the leaders of the movement.

Margaret Higgins Sanger was a member of the Women’s Committee of the New York chapter of the Socialist Party. She helped organize the socialist Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) commonly known as “The Wobblies.” In December of 1913, Sanger began publishing The Woman Rebel — a radical socialist-feminist monthly journal. And in 1921, she founded the American Birth Control League. That later became the Birth Control Federation of America, and that in turn became Planned Parenthood. In her writings, Sanger often used the eugenicist term “racial betterment” and she harped on maintaining the population of “the fit” and simultaneously decreasing the population of “the unfit.”

Margaret Higgins Sanger was born to Anne Purcell and Michael Hennessy Higgins of Corning, New York. Both were socialist-agnostic immigrants from Ireland.

Long before the advent of “safe” surgical abortion, socialists were advocating contraception and sterilization. In Great Britain, Annie Besant, an English resident of Irish descent, advocated contraception. She was on the Fabian Society’s executive committee and pushed the distribution of the 1889 Fabian Essays in Socialism. Besant allied herself with the Marxist Social Democratic Federation of Great Britain, an inevitably failed socialist party. One year after the publication of her 1886 works Why I Am a Socialist and Modern Socialism, Besant led a procession of workers from London’s East End that culminated in riots and a police/military clampdown at Trafalgar Square. Those November 13, 1887 riots became known as ‘Bloody Sunday.’

Here in the United States, the Birth Control League — the organization that would eventually be re-named Planned Parenthood — was co-founded by Margaret Sanger and her younger sister, Ethel Higgins Byrne. Ethyl was a fellow socialist. (Margaret Sanger is pictured at left, addressing a 1920s KKK meeting. This is not the most flattering photo for her modern devotees, but it is genuine.)

Their friend and Planned Parenthood co-founder was communist Katharine “Kit” Hepburn. (The mother of the more recently famous Hollywood actress.) Hepburn helped organize the group’s first clinic in Connecticut. And it was Hepburn’s sister, Edith Houghton Hooker, who organized the first Planned Parenthood facility in Baltimore, Maryland. The Houghton family had founded the Corning Glass Company.  Edith Houghton Hooker was perhaps typical of second-generation industrialist socialists of her generation — being far more liberal than her parents.

The theme running all through Margaret Sanger’s The Birth Control Review magazine was eugenics. Early on, the masthead of the magazine read: “Birth Control: To Create a Race of Thoroughbreds.” In the 1930s, Margaret Sanger established the first contraception clinic in New York City’s predominantly black Harlem district. And in 1939, with the support of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, Margaret Sanger founded the Birth Control League’s Negro Project, to limit births in Southern black communities. “From 1939 to 1942 Sanger was an honorary delegate of the Birth Control Federation of America, which included a supervisory role—alongside Mary Lasker and Clarence Gamble—in the Negro Project, an effort to deliver birth control to poor black people. ^{Sanger, over the objections of other supervisors, wanted the Negro Project to hire black ministers in leadership roles. To emphasize the benefits of hiring black community leaders to act as spokesmen, she wrote to Gamble, “We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.”}

Location, Location, Location

Setting aside all of their historically revisionist feel-good rhetoric, the continuing eugenicist goals of Planned Parenthood can clearly be seen in where they chose to set up their population reduction clinics. The majority of them are within walking distance of inner-city areas, with large black, Latino, and other ethnic populations. (See the map published by ProtectingBlackLife.org.) Originally, most of the inner cities of the eastern United States were dominated by Southern European Catholics and Eastern European Jews. But gradually, with better rail and highway transportation and the growth of the suburbs, the majority of the inner city residents nationwide shifted to blacks and Latinos. By the time that Roe v. Wade was handed down in 1973, legalizing abortion, the inner cities had already become solidly black and Latino. But Planned Parenthood continued to build most of their clinics — both surgical and nonsurgical — in or near the inner cities.

“Planned Parenthood consists of 159 medical and non-medical affiliates, which operate over 650 health clinics in the U.S. ^{It partners with organizations in 12 countries globally. The organization directly provides a variety of reproductive health services and sexual education, contributes to research in reproductive technology and advocates for the protection and expansion of reproductive rights.}

PPFA is the largest single provider of reproductive health services, including abortion, in the U.S. In their 2014 Annual Report, PPFA reported seeing over 2.5 million patients in over 4 million clinical visits and performing a total of nearly 9.5 million discrete services including 324,000 abortions. ^{Its combined annual revenue is US$1.3 billion, including approximately US$530 million in government funding such as Medicaid reimbursements.”}

The damage done by Planned Parenthood is inestimable. First by contraception and surgical sterilization, and later by legalized abortion, the group has literally changed American demographics. If it were not for Planned Parenthood and similar groups, the United States would now have a population of more than 400 million. Black and Latino babies died at disproportionately higher rates. With natural increase, the black segment of the population would have grown to 18 percent instead of 12.2 percent of the population. I’m calling this what it is: genocide. Why aren’t more American blacks speaking out against this genocide?

Forced Sterilization

In addition to voluntary sterilization, there was also state-mandated forced sterilization. Indiana passed the world’s first forced sterilization law, in 1907. Thirty-one other states soon followed along. Not surprisingly, forced sterilization was disproportionately directed against blacks. The rates for forced sterilization were alarming, particularly in the 1950s and early 1960s. Black women had a much higher than average rate of being adjudged “feebleminded”, and thence sterilized against their will. Pardon my use of a liberal term, but it can also be plainly seen that forced sterilization was sexist. Sterilization for men is minor surgery. However, tubal ligation is major (abdominal) surgery for women. But yet court-ordered sterilizations of women outnumbered those of men.

Margaret Sanger advocated compulsory sterilization, immigration exclusion, and segregation for criminals and people with disabilities and diseases. In 1931, she penned the essay “My Way to Peace,” which includes this statement:

“…keep the doors of Immigration closed to the entrance of certain aliens whose condition is known to be detrimental to the stamina of the race, such as feeble-minded, idiots, morons, insane, syphiletic, epileptic, criminal, professional prostitutes, and others in this class . . . apply a stern and rigid policy of sterilization, and segregation to that grade of population whose progeny is already tainted or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring.”

Sanger was also associated with Ernst Rudin, the director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Psychiatry in Munich, Germany. Rudin promoted and guided eugenic theories that shaped the Nazi regime’s race policy.  Even the apologist Margaret Sanger Papers Project admits that: “…the April 1933 Birth Control Review (BCR), [published] a special “Sterilization Number.” Rudin did contribute an article to this issue, as did Harry Laughlin and Leon Whitney and other eugenicists.”

Scrubbing Margaret Sanger

The mountain of evidence showing Margaret Sanger’s racism, eugenicism, and flirtations with Geman National Socialism (the nazis) and the KKK could not be ignored. In 2020, Planned Parenthood disavowed Margaret Sanger over eugenics. This clearly was a politically-contrived campaign of belated distancing, to remove the tarnish of Sanger’s name from the organization. In 2020, her name was removed from their New York office. And it was scrubbed from new printings of most Planned Parenthood literature. The last annual “Margaret Sanger Award” was made in 2015. They quietly stopped handing out this “highest honor” for the organization. Their systematic deletion of Sanger’s name is continuing. Apparently, the goal is to gradually disassociate her name from Planned Parenthood.  Poof! Down the Memory Hole.

Inescapable Delta Mathematics

The term “Natural increase” is a term used for studies in sociology, economics, geography, and demographics. In the simplest terms, “Natural increase” is the birth rate minus the death rate. The total fertility rate refers to the average number of births. The fertility rate is now decreasing all around the world, except for Africa, and in some predominantly Muslim countries. Absent immigration, the United States population would have by now reached a point of decay. This decay is attributable to a number of factors: the delay in the average marriage age, contraception, sterilization, abortion, and predatory homosexuality. If immigration had been curtailed or eliminated and “birth control” continued, then America would be nearly in the same dire straits as Japan, which is now in a death spiral.

It is estimated that 63 million unborn babies have been killed by legal abortion in the United States since 1973. That is 10 times the number of people killed by Hitler’s holocaust.

Thankfully, the birth rate in conservative and religious populations is higher than that of liberal and atheistic populations, here in the United States. So, in the long term, there is hope for freedom-loving, gun-owning Americans. We are winning, demographically. Devotees of Margaret Sanger have reduced their own populations. Dooming themselves much like celibate Shakers, the birth controllers are pruning the branches of their own family trees. But it is sad to see that Margaret Sanger and those of her ilk did tremendous damage to the birth rate in the United States. Hopefully, we can recover from that.

Groups like Planned Parenthood have also hurt America’s global competitiveness quite badly. Though still quite strong in agriculture, we are no longer an industrial powerhouse. In the sphere of global competition, it is always “Grow or die.”  As we will witness in the 21st and 22nd centuries, Japan will find this out the hard way, vis-a-vis China.
